What is CMQ

Quizzing is a ministry of Life Impact Ministries of the Christian and Missionary Alliance and Canadian Midwest Quizzing comes under the authority of the Canadian Midwest District of the C&MA.

Canadian Midwest Quizzing is a non-profit organization with charitable status recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency. It is governed according to the Canadian Midwest Quizzing Constitution.

Canadian Midwest Quizzing (CMQ) is a Bible memorization program developed for teens in Grade 7 to Grade 12 (click here for CMQ policy on Eligibility for quizzing). Through weekly practices run by adult volunteer coaches in their home church, teens systematically study and memorize books from the New Testament.

CMQ prepares a schedule of material to be studied weekly by each local group. The study material is taken from the New International Version (NIV 2011).

CMQ also schedules and runs five competitive tournaments held on weekends from September to May during each school year. During these events, the participants gather as teams from across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Northern Ontario to compete on the verses they have memorized. In addition to the competitive aspect of these tournaments, the weekend events also include social activities and worship services. Meals for the weekend are included in the registration cost and lodging is provided by volunteer billets from the host homes (screened according to CMQ’s Plan to Protect policy).

In organizing these events, CMQ desires to provide a weekend “retreat” experience for both participants and volunteers, allowing them to connect with others in the family of God as well as facilitate opportunities for spiritual refreshment.

Each year quizzers can apply/qualify for three other invitational tournaments featuring quizzers from other districts. These three meets are the Martin Luther Invitational Meet in January, Great West Meet in April and Internationals in July.

The CMQ executive committee meets approximately 5 times per year to discuss organizational matters. As illustrated by the CMQ Flow Chart, the Executive Committee appoints Sub-Committee members to assist in the running of quiz meets. CMQ Constitution
