As We Scatter – Bread of Life – John 6
Reflecting:
Below are questions related to this week’s sermon that you can discuss with your family or friends:
- In John 6:35, where he says, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” What is your understanding of the meaning of Jesus’ declaration that he is the Bread of Life? What does he want us to know about him?
- In what ways do you feel a ‘hunger’ or desire for more in your own life? What do you typically seek more of?
- What is one thing you could do this week to help you turn to Jesus instead of other people or things to meet your needs?
- The season of Lent begins on February 18. What is something you would be willing to give up for the 40 days leading up to Easter to pursue Jesus more?
Digging Deeper:
As you go into the week, here are some Scripture passages to read and study that you can do with a friend or family member to help you gain a greater understanding of what it means to know Jesus as our Bread of Life. We are going to use the Discovery Bible Study (DBS) method for studying and understanding these passages. A DBS study focuses on letting God speak through His Word on its own, without the help of a commentary or some external tool. The DBS method involves getting together with at least one other person to discuss a passage of Scripture using the following steps/questions:
- Read the passage twice and then put into your own words what happens in the passage.
- Ask the following question: What does this passage reveal about God (Father, Son or Spirit)?
- Consider what the passage reveals about us by asking the question: What does this passage reveal about humanity?
- After discussing what the passage reveals about God and about us, reflect on the following question: If this is really God’s word, what changes would I have to make in my life?
- Lastly, think about who you can share what you’ve learned with and commit to talking with them within the next few days.
